THE TIMES - Dear Coach Casebook Part II

This second part of the two-part article by Sarah Litvinoff describes further the works Sharon Bajer a director of SKAI Associates undertook with Donald Donald was having two intensive coaching sessions to determine why, at 50, he was constantly job-hopping and dissatisfied, and whether he should change career completely. At the first session he'd recognised that a chip on his shoulder was blocking him from going for what he wanted at work. Article by Sarah Litvinoff. Sharon Bajer a SKAI director says Donald was undecided whether to stay in his profession or start his own business running a football centre for youngsters. Looking at his professional life, Sharon asked him to identify the skills and attributes he brought to his work, encouraging him to see himself as a "product" and his bosses as the "buyers". The approach liberated Donald, giving him a different perspective on their demands. Together, Donald and Sharon developed an action-plan aimed at building better relationships with his bosses and role-played some elements of this. The article then details how they looked at the option of Donald starting his own business. Again, the two developed an action-plan aimed at testing the viability of the project. By the end of the session, Donald was enthused and motivated. In the next four months, Donald reported to Sharon that, thanks to the better relationships he was building at work, he was now so motivated that he was shelving his plan for a football centre and concentrating on continuing to improve matters at work.
