This two part article by Sarah Litvinoff describes how Sharon Bajer a director of SKAI Associates coached Donald In the past three years, Donald had changed companies twice. Now in his third job, he was feeling the usual dissatisfaction with work. At 50 years old, with a young family, he felt he owed it to himself to discover what was going wrong. Sharon Bajer, a director of SKAI offered Donald two lengthy face-to-face sessions to look at everything that had brought him to this point, and to emerge with a plan for the future. It became clear that, although successful and well-respected, Donald was finding many aspects of his work frustrating and had already left two jobs prematurely. Sharon encouraged Donald to focus on the most important values in his life. Donald chose freedom, contributing to/developing people, fun, integrity, and variety but accepted that, although able to express these out of work, they scarcely figured in the office. The article details how Sharon then asked him to look at the turning points in his life and determine how many had derived from choice. It emerged that, for various personal reasons, Donald was defensive and lacking in confidence when dealing with peers and superiors and, because of this, was imposing limits on himself. They ended the session by agreeing to focus next on his professional intention. Donald wanted to explore two options: staying in his present environment or making a complete switch, turning his football coaching hobby into a career. |
