Performance Management - how do you rate yourself?

In conversations with a number of you, it has become apparent that the subject of 'performance management' is taking up considerable airtime right now. Is that because now is a common time of year for organisations to conduct their annual round of performance appraisals? Possibly. However, the dialogue seems to be extending beyond the realms of diarising 1-2-1's. It appears that a number of you are seriously questioning whether your current ways of managing individuals' contribution to business performance are delivering what the business needs, and if not, what can be done?

As with many things in life, the first step to identifying what needs to be done is to first understand your current position. Obviously in our line of work, we are well placed to spot good as well as poor practice. However, it can be much harder to fully appreciate your current position from within, so we have put together a short quiz to help you profile your current position. Since performance management can be a difficult subject to get your head around, the quiz has been designed to be quick, simple, light as well as insightful.

To complete the quiz, all you need to do is look at each of the statements below (after the bit where I send my regards and give you my contact details!), and identify the multiple-choice answer that most describes your organisation's and/or your own view on managing individuals' contribution to business performance. There are 6 statements, and if you continue scrolling down this e-mail, there is some feedback, right at the end, that will help you understand your current position (no peeking before you complete the quiz!)

As always, we'd welcome your replies. Of course, please feel fee to forward this e-mail to others inside, and outside, your organisation who you think might want to take part. For those of you who know us well, you might get to the end of this quiz and think "hmmm, feedback but no action - not very SKAI like!" Don't worry - we have got actions you might want to take depending on what results you get from the quiz.
